The Government is expected to sign off on the Covid-19 vaccination plan later this morning and it will be published this afternoon.
The plan will list the five types of locations where the vaccinations will be provided.
They include hospitals and healthcare facilities, nursing homes, mass vaccination centres, GP surgeries and community pharmacies.
Under the plan up to 14.3 million doses of the vaccine could be purchased from possibly six different companies at a cost of more than €112 million.
It will be available to people free of charge with the first group, those aged over 65 in long-term care, expected to receive the vaccine in January.
Those in nursing homes are likely to receive the vaccine from a mobile medical team from a nearby hospital.
It is anticipated that it could be late spring or early summer before very large numbers of people get the vaccine however.
It is at this point that mass vaccination centres in places like Citywest in Dublin will open.
GPs and pharmacists are expected to play a greater role once broader sections of society have been vaccinated.
The vaccines will be stored at a centralised facility, the location of which will not be revealed.
A new IT system will be developed before the end of the year to allow people register online to receive the first and second doses of the vaccine.
The Government has said that doctors, nurses and pharmacists will be given specialist training to administer the vaccine.
