PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic) has admitted that the person in an audio recording talking about a reshuffle in the police force was him, but denied any wrongdoing.
The Home Minister said the conversation with another person whom he described as someone very important took place last year.
This is an old conversation. Not new. The police need not investigate because I admit it is me.
I have repeatedly said that. Even if you listen (to the conversation) there is nothing wrong (with what I said).
The point (of the conversation) is I was telling someone who is a very important person (on police matters). There is nothing wrong with me telling him, he told reporters on Friday (April 30).
He said the question is who recorded the conversion and the reason for doing so.
Asked if he would lodge a report on the recording, Hamzah replied: I am the Home Minister. There are ways (to deal with the matter), he said.
Although he did not fully explain what the conversation was about, the minister said he had spoken to the Inspector-General of Police to submit “a few names to the istana”.
He did not make any reference to any palaces.
Several blogs posted the audio recording of Hamzah discussing giving a Perakian a promotion, possibly for a police role.
