Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says there was “something of a prediction” from the federal government there could be rolling short, sharp lockdowns until the end of the year when vaccination targets are reached.
Modelling from the Doherty Institute has said that Australia needs to reach the level of 70 to 80 per cent vaccinated to avoid future lockdowns.
“There’s still hopes in Brisbane that they can get out of lockdown on Sunday but it sounds very touch and go,” Mr Clennell said
“And in Victoria, we know no lockdown yet, but people are nervous there too.”
He said Sydney is the exception as Premier Gladys Berejiklian refuses to introduce tougher restrictions.
