Britain and its allies were preparing a concerted response last night against Iran after an unlawful and callous drone attack on an oil tanker killed a British guard in the Arabian Sea.
Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, said it was highly likely that Iran was behind a targeted strike by one or more drones that crashed into the Israeli-managed tanker, MT Mercer Street, late on Thursday.
The explosion, which killed the British security guard and the Romanian captain, is being treated as the latest in a series of tit-for-tat strikes between Israel and Iran.
