Found some extra skin growing on your body? A dermatologist said it is not at all dangerous.
ln an episode of “Pinoy MD,” Dr. Jean Marquez said such condition is called an acrochordon or skin tag, which usually appears on underarms, neck, eyelids, and in between body parts.
Marquez said it can grow up to five centimeters, but said that it is “not an emergency because it is not cancerous.”
Skin tags are usually caused by hormonal changes that come from weight gains, obesity, pregnancy, menopause, or patients that have colon problems such as colon cancer.
Apart from it being irritating given the places it usually grows on, Marquez said skin tags are removed for aesthetic purposes.
“Meaning, we remove it because it doesn’t look good,” she said in English and Filipino. “We remove it through burning or laser treatment.”
“The decision on the best treatment depends on the location so the best is for you to go to a dermatologist.”
