Bert Belasco, the actor best known for his role on BET’s Let’s Stay Together, died from unknown causes. He was 38.
Belasco’s father, Bert Sr., told TMZ his son’s body was found in a hotel room in Richmond, Va., where he was required to quarantine ahead of starting production on a new movie role. He said he believes Belasco’s death was due to an aneurysm.
The actor’s publicist had no immediate comment when reached by EW.
“I am gutted by this news,” Yvette Nicole Brown wrote in response to the news on Twitter. “Bert was my friend! We had JUST talked last week. He was happy and excited about his new project and all the good that was to come. No day is promised. NO DAY.”
The actress and comedienne also shared a photo of herself with Belasco, adding, “Please let the ones you love KNOW that you love them today, right now. Any moment could be your last.”
Jackée Harry, one of Belasco’s costars on Let’s Stay Together, was also among the celebrities honoring his memory.
“Heartbroken at the passing of Bert Belasco – a talented, kind young man who I had the pleasuring of working with numerous times on #LetsStayTogether,” Harry tweeted.
In addition to playing Charles Whitmore on Let’s Stay Together, Belasco appeared on Fox’s Pitch and multiple episodes of Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here. He also had brief stints on shows like Justified, Superstore, NCIS: New Orleans, Key & Peele, and House.
