Kirk Herbstreit’s New Year’s Day plans have changed because of a COVID-19 diagnosis.
The analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay tweeted Tuesday night that he was diagnosed earlier in the week, and he and his family are feeling fine. But because he is going through COVID-19 protocols, he said he will have to work from home.
So he said he he’ll do his GameDay gig (9 a.m.-noon ET) from there, plus call the College Football Playoff semifinal between No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl.
That game, a rematch of the 2019 semifinal that was won by Clemson, will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans (8 ET, ESPN).
Herbstreit, who has been with ESPN since 1996, was an Ohio State quarterback from 1989-92. His dad, Jim, also played there, but Kirk’s sons, Tye and Jake, play for Clemson.
Another ESPN/ABC analyst, Greg McElroy, who was scheduled to call Wednesday’s Cotton Bowl between No. 7 Oklahoma and No. 10 Florida, also announced he had tested positive for COVID-19.
As much as the world might want to tell you otherwise, people are good.
