What makes it pretty sad is that we were always such a unicorn of a rural white state that had a slight blue lean. Before 2014 we had one of the more liberal Senators (Harkin), and voted Obama twice. Vilsack and Culver were also Dem governors in the last 20 years, both state House and state Senate had also been in Dem control quite often.
