The season finale of Mare of Easttown has finally dropped, and boy are viewers happy with that ending.One safe assumption was that many of the shows fan’s had no idea that killer was coming.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Mare of Easttown, episode 7. Don’t read on if you don’t want to know what happens in the finale.
With the penultimate episode ending on a cliffhanger, viewers were led to believe that
Billy Ross killed Erin McMenamin and was the real father of her young son DJ. The end of the episode saw Detective Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) en route to confront him.

However, the first few minutes of the finale revealed that it was Billy’s married brother, John Ross, who had an affair with young Erin and was the father to her child.
Erin’s best friend Jess gives police a photo that she discovered of John and Erin in bed, leading police to then suspect John who was the murderer, killing Erin to keep their affair a secret.
However, John confesses to Mare quite early on in the episode, and before you know it more twists and turns were coming.
It turns out that John was only protecting his younger brother Ryan Ross, who was Erin’s real killer.

Some viewers have not only called the show the “#1 show” of the year, with others describing it as the one of the “best endings” they have seen in a while.
Not to mention Kate Winslet’s excellent performance which fans are sure will earn her an Emmy.
