First Minister Mark Drakeford will hold a press conference on Monday afternoon as coronavirus restrictions are eased and Wales enters alert level one.
As of today, Monday, May 7, people will be able to meet in larger groups and rules around indoor contact will be eased.
The changes mean that concerts, football matches with spectators and sporting activities outdoors can once again resume and larger outdoor weddings will be allowed.
However, the announcement made on Friday indicates that the Welsh Government is taking a more cautious approach than initially indicated in May.
Today, easing rules around outdoor events comes into force and in two weeks time on June 21, a second review on indoor events will be carried out.

From Monday, June 7

  • Up to 30 people can meet outdoors, including in private gardens, outdoor hospitality and public places.
  • Larger outdoor organised gatherings and events, such as concerts, football matches and sporting activities, like organised running groups, can go ahead for up to 4,000 people non-seated and 10,000 people seated.
  • Weddings and wedding receptions fall under this category of organised gatherings and events, which means larger weddings can take place outdoors.
  • The size of extended households can be increased to up to three households, and a further household with a single adult or single adult with caring responsibilities will also be able to join.

Mr Drakeford stressed on Friday that the maximum number of people that can attend a non-seated or seated event will not apply to every outdoor venue.
Instead, venues will have to set their own limit based on carrying out a risk assessment to ensure social distancing can be followed.

The new two stage approach to alert level one is a result of the Delta coronavirus variant which is gaining prevalence across the UK and Wales.
There are currently 97 cases in Wales, including a cluster of cases in Conwy.
The Welsh Government said the two-stage approach would enable more people to be vaccinated and complete their two-dose course while more became clear about the transmissibility of the variant.
