It has been confirmed that Kelsey Grammer will reprise his role as Dr Frasier Crane in a new series of comedy classic Frasier on US streaming service Paramount+.
“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” Grammer said. 
“I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr Frasier Crane.”
Grammer will also serve as executive producer on the series alongside writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces).
Frasier originally ran from 1993 to 2004
Sixty-six-year-old Grammer has played Frasier in three series: Cheers, Wings and the character’s titular show, which originally ran from 1993 to 2004. He also directed over 30 episodes of Frasier.
It is not known if co-stars David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin will be joining Grammer for the reboot, but US entertainment trade website Deadline says it understands Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother Niles, has been approached about a return. John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles’ father Martin, passed away in 2014.

Paramount+ is the rebrand of parent company ViacomCBS’ existing subscription streaming service, CBS All Access, and is due to launch in the US on 4 March, with a Criminal Minds reboot also on its future slate. An international version of Paramount+ is due later this year.
